I went to school with Don and remember well going over to his house to read his collection of comic books. He always shared his matzo with me and that was much appreciated. I thought the world of his dad, Jack. Don had a blog with photos of his tour of Israel. By any chance do you have a link to that blog.

Your analysis of your family history is amazing, by far the best I’ve ever read, both the depth and your excellent writing.

Comment on Game 7 of the 2019 World Series: A Live Blog by Jeff Fri, 01 Nov 2019 11:55:03 +0000 In reply to Rob Ford.

Brought a tear to my eye. Thanks, bro.

Comment on Game 7 of the 2019 World Series: A Live Blog by Rob Ford Fri, 01 Nov 2019 00:01:41 +0000 25 years ago… opening day 1994… you and I sat in the Astrodome watching the ‘Stros battle your Expos. It would be the first of many, many baseball games we would, and will, attend together. That season… destroyed by The Strike… I truly believe, would’ve ended with the Expos holding up the trophy. The American National Pastime’s championship banner would have been hoisted in Canada for the third straight year. But greed got in the way. That team would soon be dismantled. All those players becoming stars for other franchises… and ten years after that, the franchise itself would belong to another city… in another country. Funny though… that you end up in DC about that same time.
The only thing that would’ve made it better, is if I could have joined you for last night’s viewing party… watching the ‘Stros, once again, battling your team. But still… congrats my friend. You’ve waited a long time for this. YOUR team won it all. The jerseys may say Nationals… but the blood is still type-Expo.

Comment on The Nyveen Name by Bill Holland Tue, 24 Sep 2019 14:19:22 +0000 Hi Jeff,

I’m trying to get in touch with direct descendants of Sem Nijveen, particularly his son Micha.
Do you have an email address? I’m a fan of Sem’s work and I have a request to make.
Hope you can help.

I was preparing to turn right out onto the road, checking it out to my left and saw NOTHING coming. So, I turn out and about 6 seconds later this road ragger is on my ass, in my blind spot tails me all the way to the 4 lane busy intersection and then gets in the right hand turn lane, stops next to my SUV. I hollered out window U NEED TO BACK OFF LOUIE!, He calls “me” a b-tch, I then exercised my constitutional right to flip him the upside down bird and yell back Hey I Got Your B-itch Right Here!! He drove off.

Comment on Dinner at the Coronado Room by Pauline! Fri, 25 Oct 2013 14:27:06 +0000 Sorry the dinner with your mom wasn’t up to par :/ But I did enjoy the bit about the mai tai recommendation from the pedophile looking piano man. You’re such a badass writer!

Comment on The Nyveen Name by Pauline Mon, 29 Apr 2013 14:12:15 +0000 That was really interesting. It’s awesome that you’re the second generation of your last name. I am too, since Pait was the name given to my dad even though it was neither my grandmother or grandfather’s last name. Any other Pait you would meet in Texas will definitely have my DNA! I like having a unique name, even though there are always red lines under it every time i type it..

It’s amazing how you were able to find so much detail about your heritage. I used to think learning anything about my dad’s side of the family was a lost cause. But not anymore 🙂
