There’s not enough courtesy in the world.

People cut in line, people change lanes right in front of you without signaling. People will walk in a mall or down a sidewalk in a long chain without even thinking for a moment that there might be someone behind them who wants to get past them. A Conversation with Claire Danes

Back in college, I was a social recluse and Internet junkie. I sat in my dorm room and chatted online with strangers on IRC (a text-based online chat service) every night. It wasn’t like Facebook or even AOL, where user names are tied to accounts and profiles. There was simply no way to confirm anyone’s identity, so you could be whoever you wanted. Quite often, especially in the local LA chat rooms, users would pretend to be celebrities. It was probably never true. Or so I thought. (more…)

Which Players Would Benefit Most from Steroids?

While watching the Giants GameCast today, watching Bonds inch closer to the home run record, I started wondering if there were any OTHER players who could theoretically benefit MORE from using steroids than Barry Bonds has. I’m not just talking home runs, but overall hitting. Bonds is/was certainly one of the game’s best hitters, but are there any other players who may be able to improve their game more than Bonds did by using steroids? I’ve never seen any kind of analysis attempting to answer this question, so I went for it. (more…)

Growing Up

I suppose you’re officially grown up when:

  1. You know you’re never going to live with your parents again.
  2. You know that you can always get a job if you really want one.
  3. You’re not an idiot with money.
  4. You’re able to be in a healthy, stable relationship.
  5. You’re OK with how you look.
  6. You are worldly and culturally aware.
  7. You feel like you’ve been at least moderately productive with your life so far.
  8. You have goals, even if they are a bit vague.
  9. You have grit.
  10. You try to make good decisions.
